Description: We are investigating how chemical biosignatures on Mars would be altered or destroyed when exposed to solar UV radiation in the presence of oxychlorines and their intermediate products. Knowing the products of biosignature alteration will help in identifying what type of compounds and where to look in the search for life on Mars. We are also developing in-situ analytical instrumentation designed to unambiguously detect microbial life and determine the habitability of planetary environments that may be present on Mars and the oceans of Enceladus or Europa.
